: : Recipe : : Elderberry Syrup

Just when I thought my children were over their colds, another one hits. That is where my homemade elderberry syrup comes into play. This stuff is awesome. I always feel good taking it and it's a cinch to make! I use to buy mine, but when I found out how easy it was to make, I will never buy it already made again! My version is VERY simple & basic as you will see.

To make enough elderberry syrup to fill an old maple syrup glass bottle (12.5 oz) you'll need: :

* 1/2 dried elderberries (I got mine from here ) remove any twigs and stems!
* 2 cups of filtered water
* 1/2 - 2/3 cup raw honey or maple syrup (or a combination of both as I had to do due to the fact I ran out of raw honey)

Now, place the water and elderberries in a heavy pot and simmer on low-medium heat for about 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes is up, strain the liquid to remove the elderberries and place the liquid in a glass bowl and stir in your honey/maple syrup.
Using a funnel, pour your elderberry syrup into the glass bottle and that's it! Easy as pie.
Keep your syrup in the refrigerator (I wouldn't keep it longer than a month).
Dosage is typically 1tbs daily for adults and 1tsp daily for children.
** NEVER give honey to children under 1 year old!! **
Here's to good health! Enjoy!

Just a few things.

A new little journal to fill with memories (Nikki McClure)
Probably the coolest cookie cutters on the planet!
New tins!! That means more beeswax polish in the shop soon!
A lovely little wooden snack board that we found thrift shopping a couple of years ago.
Decided to make it extra special.
And finally, a new magazine to pour over. I had never heard of "Countryside" before. Again, another thrift store find!

Happy Wednesday!
